Pre-process of wall decal installation
You can install wall decals at home easily if you follow all the steps with caution. Before moving to the installation process, it is necessary to prepare your wall for a decal installation. Clean the wall with a damp cloth. This is important because the wall contains dust and sometimes residue of the previous wall or painting installation. If you have recently painted the wall then do not install wall decal or sticker immediately, at least wait for 2 weeks for better results.
Put the decal on desired position
Put the decal in the desired position on the wall and hold it in place with masking tape at the top with two vertical stripes. You can also apply a center hinge with masking tape as well. Cut the backing paper off just leaving the application paper and the decal. In this step, prevent the decal from touching the wall at this stage.
Once you apply the top half of the decal, remove the center masking tape and apply the bottom half in the same way as you did the top.
Transfer the decal to the wall
Slowly peel back the top layer (application tape) at a 180 degree angle back on itself making sure the decal stays on the wall, if the decal comes away re-squeegee the sticker.
Next, remove the two top masking tape strips and peel off the top layer (application tape) toward yourself removing the decal from the backing paper. Ensure that the decal lifts cleanly from the backing.
Smooth the decal
Now apply the decal to the wall using the squeegee at a 45-degree angle pushing the air out as you go. Rub over the whole decal firmly to make sure it’s stuck to the wall well.
Stand back and enjoy your new wall decal.

Important tips & tricks
- Weather Conditions: It is very important to keep some considerations in mind for the wall decal installation. Usually, home installation does no create any issue. If you are installing on garage doors or in cold temperatures then vinyl will not stick for long. Your wall should not be too cold, the temperature should be between 70-80 degrees. For outdoor installation, the weather could be a reason for decal tearing. If you feel your wall is cold then first warm it.
- Wall Texture: Wall texture is very important to analyze before the decal installation. Decals stick best on smooth or semi-gloss surfaces. If the wall is not painted then the decal will tear out. Also, wait for at least 2-3 weeks for the newly painted wall.
